Dr. Assia Stepanian is a board-certified gynecologist and award-winning researcher, educator, and specialist in Minimally Invasive Gynecological Surgery (MIGS), and management of uterine fibroids, adenomyosis, Endometriosis, ovary sparing ovarian surgery, reconstructive surgery on the uterus or hysterectomy for large uterus or complex conditions, pelvic adhesions, mullein anomalies of which she co-authors classification, MRKH and other. Dr. Stepanian received her medical degree at the world-famous I.M. Sechenov Moscow Medical Academy and completed her Obstetrics and Gynecology residency at the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences Center for Perinatology, Obstetrics and Gynecology.

She had the honor of being personally trained by her mother, Dr. Leila Adamyan who created the techniques of laparo-vaginal and laparoscopic neo-vagina creation utilizing the pelvic peritoneum.

With a strong desire to share the advanced techniques she had mastered, Dr. Stepanian moved to the United States and completed an Obstetrics and Gynecology residency at East Carolina University’s Brody School of Medicine in 2005 and was awarded and completed a prestigious Fellowship in Gynecologic Endoscopy. She has devoted much of her career to enriching the lives of women affected by MRKH.

Dr. Stepanian has presented, and taught extensively, in the U.S. and abroad, on the techniques of managing uterine anamolies and MRKH as well as associated conditions. She had the honor of serving as a visiting professor at Cornell University where she presented “Endoscopic Treatment of MRKH and Mullerian Anomalies” and was invited to demonstrate the surgery via direct transmission at the American Association of Gynecologic Laparascopists 40th Anniversary Meeting. She has authored and co-authored multiple chapters and articles on the subject and is the founder of SurgeryU which includes the world’s first and largest collective online video-library in minimally-invasive gynecologic surgery. She also co-authored, with Professor Adamyan, the definitive classification of female genital malformations which was accepted by the International Federation of Gynecologists and Obstetricians. Dr. Stepanian has been named an Honorary Professor with the Russian Federation Ministry of Health’s, VI Kulakov Federal Medical Scientific Center for Obstetrics, Gynecology and Perinatology where she collaborates on new approaches and techniques in gynecologic health and surgery.
